👋 The Short Version
This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We've written it in plain English — no legal jargon.
📱 Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Your display name (optional — defaults to "Friend")
- Body weight and activity level (used only to calculate your daily water goal)
- Water and drink logs you create
- Custom reminder settings
Information collected automatically:
- Crash reports and diagnostic data (via Apple's standard crash reporting, only if you have opted in on your device)
- Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics to help us improve the app
Information we do NOT collect:
- We do not collect your precise GPS location
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or microphone (unless you save a share card to Photos — that uses iOS's standard photo-save permission)
- We do not build advertising profiles based on your usage
🏠 Guest Mode (Local Only)
By default, WaterBloom runs entirely on your device. In guest mode:
- All your data is stored locally using your device's secure on-device database
- Nothing is transmitted to our servers
- Deleting the app removes all local data permanently
We recommend creating a free account if you want to back up your data or switch devices.
☁️ Account & Cloud Sync
If you create a WaterBloom account, your data is stored securely using Supabase (a GDPR-compliant cloud database provider). Your account data includes:
- Your email address
- Your profile settings and preferences
- Your hydration logs and streaks
This data is protected by row-level security — only you can access your own records. We use your email solely to authenticate your account and send account-related communications (e.g., email verification). We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.
📣 Advertising
WaterBloom uses Google AdMob to display banner advertisements. AdMob may use device identifiers (such as your Advertising ID) to serve relevant ads, subject to your consent under Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework.
- On iOS, you will be asked for tracking permission before any ad personalization occurs
- If you decline, only non-personalized ads will be shown
- You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy → Tracking

🔔 Notifications
WaterBloom can send local push notifications as hydration reminders. These are processed entirely on-device — we do not use a third-party push notification service to deliver reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → WaterBloom.
🗑️ Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- Guest mode: Delete the app to remove all data instantly
- Account holders: Go to Profile → Delete Account to permanently remove your account and all associated data from our servers within 30 days
You may also contact us at support@waterbloom.app to request data deletion manually.
👶 Children's Privacy
WaterBloom is rated 4+ and is designed for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
🌍 International Users
WaterBloom is operated from the United States. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR or CCPA, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@waterbloom.app.
📝 Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you within the app. Continued use of WaterBloom after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
